When Long Flexible Printed Circuits (Long FPC) is a technically challenging to flexible circuit manufacturers and cost prohibitive to clients, we have the fabrication solution and make it no longer the headache case upon our advanced equipment, optimized process control and skilled technicians.

This FPC applies for an industrial control machine with connector function. The size of the flexible circuit with multiple FR4 and PI stiffeners is 1062mm x 68.5mm (41.81’’ x 2.70’’), the long side falls out of the standard process panel size, any one side should be less than 250mm (9.84’’). The process engineer has to cut the material of the longer side as per the radial direction of the flexible circuit copper laminate (FCCL). After two experiments, we finally succeeded to fabricate this Flexible Circuit Prototypes, which got approval and appreciation from the customer.

The flexible circuit is based on a polyimide FCCL that withstands high temperatures. It’s possible to produce flexible circuits having a long size of 3,500mm (137.8’’), including a protective cover layer with PI coverlay. For long printed circuits, the PCB design needs fewer connection points, gold fingers, and bigger trace width and spacing. Furthermore, they are easier to install in devices and machine than conventional wire harnesses. But the key to remember, when there is GND layer in the design, we suggest to use Cross-Hatching Copper technology to ensure the flexibility and bend recovery capacity.
